FAQ

Question

Why does the internet laboratory not offer an HIV-test?

Answer

Although established procedures for the self-collection of specimens, particularly saliva, are available, they are finicky. Due to the consequences associated with the result, we require a blood sample for the analysis. The blood can be collected by your physician or at our laboratory.

Question

Does my health insurance cover the cost for the analysis?

Answer

You can print out the invoice and submit it to the health insurance. Generally, the analyses are covered in accordance with the Swiss analysis schedule, identified by the 4 digit item number including 2 decimals. The basic insurance usually only covers analyses prescribed by the physician and only after the deductible (franchise) has been used. The relatively small costs for our analyses generally will not reach the limit of the deductible. However, it is worth a try, especially if you have additional private coverage.

Question

Is the transmission of my results safe?

Answer

Because you retrieve the results personally from our homepage, they are safe from unauthorised access. Only you have the password to view your results. Please keep it secret and don’t tell it to anyone.

Question

Can I mail in the specimen on behalf of a fried who prefers to remain anonymous?

Answer

We are unable to monitor the pre-analytical phase, i. e. the time before the specimen arrives at our laboratory. However, because any information is stored in our IT systems, it is possible that the follow-up results are allocated incorrectly in case of repeat specimen submissions. Moreover, future information about the patient is naturally incorrect.

Alternatively, it is recommended to submit the specimen with an anonymous identification using the initials and the date of birth. However, the subsequent allocation of and information about follow-up results are again no longer distinct. Therefore, anonymisation should be avoided whenever possible.
